About George Nethercutt

Mr. Nethercutt created the George Nethercutt Foundation to foster understanding of American government, civics, history, and business in young adults.  Each year, selected college students receive a George Nethercutt Foundation fellowship to spend time in Washington, D.C. and pursue academic courses, internships, and other leadership opportunities.

Mr. Nethercutt represented Washington State’s 5th Congressional District until choosing to run for the U.S. Senate in 2004. While serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was a member of the prestigious House Committee on Appropriations and the House Science Committee.

Mr. Nethercutt co-founded the private, non-profit Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery for the prevention of child abuse. He has also served as president of the Spokane chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and is now a member of the international JDRF board.

Mr. Nethercutt currently serves on the board of directors of the Washington Policy Center in Seattle, a nonpartisan free-market think tank. He also serves as Of-Counsel to the Spokane, Washington-based law firm Lee & Hayes an international intellectual property law firm with offices in Spokane and Seattle, WA, Austin, TX, Bejing, China and Taiwan. Mr. Nethercutt is also the former U.S. Chairman of the Permanent Joint Board on Defense-U.S./Canada, appointed by President George W. Bush in 2005.   He now serves as a member of a Congressionally mandated defense policy board reviewing US preparation for catastrophic incidents. He also serves on several corporate boards, is Chairman of Nethercutt Consulting LLC, and is Of-Counsel to BlueWater strategies.

Mr. Nethercutt earned a bachelor's degree in English from Washington State University before graduating from Gonzaga University School of Law. He and his wife, Mary Beth, have two children.
